| Charity Shotgun Bowmaker 30 Dec 2003
Teams bid secretly for the tee they wanted to tee off from and the total amount of bids from all the teams was donated to the Captain's Charity. The Shotgun format involves teams of players walking out to pre-determined tees and when the gun is fired, all players start playing at the same time. If your start tee is the 9th then 18 holes later you will finish on the 8th green and walk in. At Stockwood therefore if this is your start tee then you have to walk the 2 miles out to the 9th tee before you start your round and the 2 miles back from the 8th green once you have finished your round. The bidding for the 'better' tees (ie. those tees nearest to the clubhouse) was therefore quite fierce and this is the reason the 18 teams bid in total £514.50 which formed the lions share of the £662.50 raised for the Captain's Charity.
The format was 3/4 handicap allowance and best 2 stableford scores from 4 for each hole but with each player contributing a minimum of 7 scores during the round. With this format, scores of 90 points or above can expect to appear in the frame and this competition was no exception. The winning team scored 95 points and included the Club Captain who's name appears regularly on trophies with this type of format. Actual results follow: |
