Winter rules have gone and summer is upon us, although as I write this it's tipping down and has been for most of the week.
The new year has seen the introduction of buggies with GPS facilities. These have proved to be very popular if the empty buggy park is anything to go by. Already some improvements have been made to the buggy paths with more to follow. Personally I'd happily pay for a taxi service from the 13th green to the 14th tee!
One little story has already come from the buggies. Two members were making their way up the 15th. One jumps out of the buggy and prepares to play his 2nd shot to the green. He turns to his partner and asks "How far am I from the pin?" His partner consults the GPS screen and replies "740 yards". "Don't be stupid" says the 1st player, "it can't be that far" "That's what the GPS says, if you don't believe me come and see for yourself" he's told. So the player makes his way back to the buggy and sure enough it is saying 740 yards to the pin. But then he turns to his partner and says "You stupid b*****, you've got it set for the 16th!"
We've already had the first of the summer medals and, by the time you've read this, a club stableford. Results and club handicaps can be viewed on www.howdidido.co.uk.
At the end of the month is the CAPTAIN'S CHARITY WEEKEND. This starts on Friday 1st June with a dance in the evening followed on the Saturday with a Texas Scramble and culminates on Sunday 3rd with a fun day. Please support these events and in so doing help both the Altzeimer's and Downs Syndrome charities. More details are available on the notice boards or behind the bar.
As yet I have not heard from any of the team Captains so I can't tell you how are representatives are doing, but the season is young and I live in hope!
I can be contacted at TalkSV@aol.com or leave an envelope on a notice board
